Development of the Water Development and Management Master Plan (SDAGE): the Gourma Water Agency (AEG) validates the report of the thematic study “Other uses”

On Wednesday September 2, 2020, the validation workshop of the report of the thematic study “Other uses” by the specialized commission of the Basin Committee of the Koupéla Chamber of Commerce was held in the conference room of the Koupéla Chamber of Commerce. AEG responsible for monitoring the SDAGE development process. This study, which is part of the establishment of the inventory of water resources, the first step in the development of the AEG SDAGE, was carried out by the Technical Unit for monitoring the process at the Directorate. General of the AEG. This validation brings the number of validated studies to seven (7). It should be remembered that ten (10) thematic studies were identified to establish the inventory of water resources in the area of ​​competence of the Gourma Water Agency.

The workshop was opened by the President of the Specialized Commission (Mr. Barnabé KABORE, Regional Director for the Environment, Green Economy and Climate Change in the East) who welcomed the members of the Commission and urged them to make useful amendments to improve the report.

Dr SANON Moussa, Technical Assistant IWRM, after the opening, briefly presented the report. He thus addressed the uses of water related to tourism and recreation, fishing and aquaculture, arboriculture, buildings and public works, energy and crafts for agro-food processing.

Also, he took note of the observation that water was used a lot in the above-mentioned activities. With regard to the economic issues of water, several challenges to be taken up in the rational management of water in the AEG area. Thus, enormous quantities of water must be mobilized by 2030 to meet the needs of the populations of the AEG space.

The report’s findings prompted questions to which answers have been given. Also, contributions to improve the report were made by the participants.

The specialized committee praised the quality of the report and therefore approved it.

The next report to be validated is that of the inventory of sanitation in the area of competence of the AEG.
